Description

The Tim Gaestel – Retro Fit Rope Cap is named for U.S. veteran Tim Gaestel

Gaestel was born in Pearl City, Hawaii in 1983. In August 2001, he enlisted in the Army and was due to leave for basic training on September 11, 2001.  He was stationed at Fort Bragg as part of the Charlie Battery 1-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment. During four years with the 82nd Airborne Division, Gaestel witnessed combat in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2003, while driving through a dangerous area south of Baghdad, a roadside bomb exploded as Gaestel’s humvee was passing.  Two pieces of shrapnel went through his lower body armor and into his back.  Gaestel remained in Iraq for eight months, and in April 2004, returned from deployment as a disabled soldier.  Gaestel received the Purple Heart for my injuries during that attack.

In 2008, he was accepted to Texas State University, and credits golf with pulling him out of a dark place in his life.  Gaestel graduated in 2011 and moved to San Angelo to work for Bentwood Country Club as the coach for the junior high school golf program.  He is currently a teacher at Southlake Carrol High School and an assistant golf coach for the boy’s and girl’s golf teams.
